Abstract: |
The effect of electron beam on the properties of nanocalcium carbonate/epoxy nanocomposites have been studied. The dispersion of the nanocalcium carbonate in the epoxy matrix is characterized by transition electron microscopy (TEM). The result of TEM microghraph indicated the uniform dispersion of nanocalcium carbonate and exfoliation of nanoclay in nanocomposites. The mechanical behavior of samples is investigated by tensile test. Thermal stability of these nanocomposites were studied using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA). The experimental data suggested that the exposure of epoxy hybrids to electron beam improved the tensile strength of samples at lower irradiation doses due to enhancement of cross-link. The nanocomposites exhibit superior irradiation-resistance properties than that of unfilled epoxy. |
