Abstract In this study we have two essential goals, 1) formation of nanocrystalline surface by shot peening , 2) Evaluation of wear corrosion characteristics in various pH. Alloys which selected were 304 stainless steel and Ck15 low carbon steel. Nano crystalline surface on steel was prepared by shot peening processes. The nano size grain was checked by XRD and Williamson hull equation (considering strain effect). Nanocrystalline surface of steel had a significant effect on hardness and it contained residual compressive stresses which not only improved the fatigue life by 20%, but also increased the wear corrosion resistance of steel. When corrosion product or film on the steel surface was stable , the normal corrosion resistance was improved as well but when the corrosion product or film was not stable only wear corrosion resistance was improved. However the normal corrosion became worse in comparison to ordinary surface. In pH =2 and 1% NaCl solution, the normal and wear corrosion of nanocrystalline samples were investigated by weight loss , polarization diagrams and wet pin on disk for two types of steel, Ck15 and 304ss . It was found that nanosurface for steel had a good effect on corrosion and wear corrosion. |
