Abstract In this study, mechanical alloying (MA) were used to synthesis Al-Fe/TiB2 nanocomposites using of aluminum, ferrotitanium and acid boric as a raw materials. The powders were mixed for 15 min and the subjected to MA in an attritor ball mill for 30 h under argon atmosphere. The milled powders were annealed at 700°C for 1h under argon atmosphere. The phase transformation, microstructure and morphology of MA powder particles were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). XRD results of annealed powders confirmed the formation TiB2 particles with an average grain size of 45 nm. Nanocomposites of α-Al and nanocrystalline intermetallices viz. Al13Fe4 and Al3Ti in the alloy was also formed after annealing. |
