Abstract: |
Because of appropriate properties of magnesium and its alloys, they have been widely used as biodegradable materials. But its weak corrosion behavior can cause sudden failure of implants. In order to control corrosion resistance and biocompatibility of the alloys, hydroxyapatite coating is applied on AZ31 magnesium alloy. Electrodeposition was used to apply the coating at different potentials to optimize its properties. Microstructure and corrosion behavior of the coated samples were compared using Scaning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and electrochemical tests respectively. The results shown that there is an optimum voltage and temperature at which HA coating is totally homogeneous and its corrosion behavior is improved. |
